Lolo Jones and the Olympics

U.S. women’s track star Lolo Jones lost a race. Apparently, she was criticized by the media for it. Her response:

“I think it was crazy just because it was two days before I competed, and then the fact that it was from a U.S. media (outlet),” Jones said. “They should be supporting our U.S. Olympic athletes, and instead they just ripped me to shreds. I thought that was crazy because I work six days a week, every day, for four years for a 12-second race.”

———

I sympathize with this woman, for it does not seem fair for her to be judged simply on whether she wins or loses the race, but I think I may be able, from the above-quoted, to put my finger on a possible cause of her anxiety and loss of peace…

Thanks, dear reader, should you ever find me, for being my gadfly.
